BURRILLVILLE – When federal agents searched a Burrillville pond last month, they were looking for evidence related to the disappearance of a boy from Webster, Mass. in 1978, according to a release this week.
Andrew Amato was four years old when he disappeared decades ago, and the FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information in the case. He was last seen playing in the woods near his home in Webster.

The FBI’s Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team searched Round Pond in Burrillville for several hours on Thursday, Sept. 18 stating only that they were searching for “specific evidence.” The agency has not disclosed what, if anything, was found.

Amato was reported missing by his mother on September 30, 1978 after disappearing in the woods near the Ash Street Trailer Park around 11 a.m. At the time of his disappearance and was wearing a maroon-colored snorkel jacket, jeans, a white Mickey Mouse t-shirt, and brown shoes with a jogger stripe.
The FBI’s Boston Field Office and the Webster Police Department are still asking the public for assistance in locating him or his remains.
