Charter Review

The town is now accepting applications for a new board that will have the task of reviewing the Town Charter for possible revisions. Registered Glocester voters are invited to apply to serve on a nine member Charter Review Commission that will make recommendations to the Town Council. Those interested are asked to fill out an application online here or by visiting the Town Clerk’s office. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14.

Heritage Park Hike

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council will host a 3-mile guided hike through Steere Hill Conservation Area on Saturday, Oct. 11 with participants meeting up at the Heritage Park Trailhead at 105 Chestnut Oak Road at 9:40 a.m. The cost to join is $10 to $30 on a sliding scale or pay what you can with a minimum of $1 at the trailhead, with all proceeds to support WRWC’s community and environmental projects.

Free parking is available on site.

Countryfest

Hill’s Tavern & Grill at 417 Putnam Pike will host Countryfest on Saturday, Oct. 11, presented by Brave Rock, with live music, vendors, games and prizes from 2 to 7 p.m. Enjoy live country music from Back Rhodes, Corey Daniel, Bill Latendresse, and Matthew Royon on the bar’s grounds with a country-themed, family-friendly day. Admission costs $10 and is free for kids.

Dine with the Dead

Paranormal author and researcher Thomas D’Agostino will be at Tavern on Main at 1157 Putnam Pike on Monday, Oct. 20, Monday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Oct. 28 for Dining With The Dead, paranormal dinner investigation events at Chepachet’s own haunted restaurant. The events have is limited seating, and reservations must be made by calling (401) 710-9788.

Handwriting class

The Learning Place Preschool at 21 Terry Lane will offer a handwriting class for home schooled students for ages 5 to 8 years old. There will be four sessions held on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m., with classes starting Oct. 8. Parents should email [email protected] for tuition rates and registration forms.

Town meetings

The West Glocester Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 7 starting at 5:30 p.m. at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Planning Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 7 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Foster-Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 7 starting at 7 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.

The Glocester School Committee has postponed its regular meeting from Tuesday, Oct. 7 to Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. The agenda is expected to be posted on the Secretary of State’s website 48 hours in advance.

The Glocester Conservation Commission will not hold their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9.
