BURRILLVILLE – The highly anticipated auction of Burrillville’s most famous allegedly haunted house will not take place on Halloween as originally planned.
That’s because the loan on the 300-year-old structure on Round Top Road known as The Conjuring House has been sold, according to JJ Manning Auctioneers. Needham Bank sold the underlying mortgage loan on Wednesday, Nov. 8, the firm announced.

The news comes amid a campaign by one well-known paranormal investigator to purchase the property. Jason Hawes raised more than $67,000 since Friday, Oct. 3 with a GoFundMe campaign focused on saving the property.
“It’s sad, honestly it is,” Hawes said in a video Wednesday night. “We stepped up as a community to make this happen.”
The GoFundMe was temporarily paused amid the news – but then renewed as Hawes noted the following day that the new mortgage holder will still need to sell the property.
“We can do this,” said Hawes. “This can be a historic movement like no other.”
The Massachusetts-based auction firm has not said who purchased the loan.
Editor’s note: An original version of this story reported that the house itself had been sold and has been corrected to note it was the underlying mortgage loan.
