BURRILLVILLE – A fire Sunday afternoon ripped through the roof of a home on Steere Street, displacing one Harrisville family.
Firefighters were called to 124 Steere St. around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12 for a blaze that began in the garage of the single-family home, according to Harrisville Fire Chief Marcel Fontenault.

Flames spread quickly from the attached garage to the roof of the home and the incident was soon upgraded to a two-alarm fire, with all town departments responding, along with mutual aid from surrounding communities.
Crews were still on scene around 8 p.m. Sunday night watching for hot spots in the hard to extinguish blaze.
Fontenault said the family was inside the home when the fire began, but all three individuals were safely evacuated.
A car parked in the garage at the time was severely damaged.
Fontenault said the house, a single-story ranch built in 1953 according to town property records, was “pretty much destroyed.”
