Hydrant flushing

The Water Department will conduct hydrant flushing in the areas of Slatersville, Forestdale, Mendon Road and Industrial Park from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, Oct. 27 through Friday, Oct. 31. Department officials recommend limiting water use during the operation.

Flushing enhances water quality but may cause temporary loss in pressure and discoloration. The water is not harmful but those with discoloration should run the cold water until it clears.

Players showed up in costume for a adult slowpitch softball game to benefit the North Smithfield Girls Softball league on Saturday.

Cookie Walk

A Cookie Walk will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield High School at 412 Greenville Road. The event will feature spooky music with cookies available for sale at a cost of $5-$10 per box. Guests are invited to come in costume and all proceeds will benefit the school’s Unity Ball.

The town’s senior program is offering one-on-one sessions on Medicare during open enrollment with specialist Guy Boulay. Appointments are now available on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Scouter’s Hall. To schedule, call (401) 769-5106.

Conversations

Town Administrator Scott Gibbs is launching an initiative to hold informal conversations with interested residents about North Smithfield’s future vision.

“These events will not be for complaining, but rather opportunities to have civil, positive conversations about how to transform our community to meet the challenges and opportunities our community is or could be facing,” noted the administrator in the town newsletter.

Those interested in participating are asked to email [email protected] with “North Smithfield’s Future Vision” in the subject line, and include their first and last name and why they are interested in the initiative.

“These will be small, private conversations with the goal of creating a safe and constructive environment to share your ideas,” noted Gibbs.
