CELINA, Ohio — A Grand Jury in Ohio has indicted a North Smithfield man for allegedly causing nearly $9,000 in damage both public and private during incidents in August, a felony crime in that state that could come with time in prison.
Kevin Evers, 33, of Pound Hill Road is facing charges of both felony vandalism and criminal mischief for damaging a baseball field, a private lawn and a soybean field, according to prosecutors in Mercer County.
Evers was arrested on Sunday, August 10 and is now being held at the Mercer County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
Vandalism is considered a fifth degree felony in Ohio carrying a sentence of 6 to 12 months in prison and fines up to $2,500. According to the indictment, damage to the public baseball field totaled $2,909. The same figure was used to estimate harm caused to the two pieces of private property, with damages in the case totaling $8,727.
He was indicted on the charges by the Mercer County Grand Jury in the State of Ohio versus Kevin Evers.
Evers has no criminal record in the state of Rhode Island, but has faced several violations for speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle and more before the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal, according to the state criminal database.
His case will proceed in the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas in Celina, Ohio.
