Sunday cartoon: Take warm winter breaks

BURRILLVILLE – With the areas first moderate snowfall falling this weekend, it’s a good time to remind kids and families about the importance of taking warm winter breaks when participating with any outdoor activities.

Whether you are shoveling snow off of walkways and driveways or clearing snow off of family vehicles, it’s wise to do so with warm up breaks inside your apartment or house. Remove wet clothes and have a healthy snack or a cup of hot chocolate or apple cider while you relax and warm up inside. Never put your wet clothes back on to go back outside. Make sure that your clothes are dry, and remember to limit your outside activities. Bundle up with warm winter coats, winter hats, scarves and gloves or mittens to keep you dry and warmer. If you feel tired, go back inside to rest and warm up. Never venture out alone. Always bring a buddy or family member with you.

The Fearless Dino Protector Squad and Seasons Of Safety coloring campaign were created to educate kids and families about a variety of safety themes in and around the home while raising awareness with some creative and fun educational cartoon characters and coloring cartoons for kids to color in and discuss with parents and guardians.

Jim Weicherding is a Burrillville resident, and the founder and creator of an award-winning traffic safety effort Seasons of Safety. Weicherding contributes kids’ coloring cartoons, which can be printed and used to help parents discuss safety issues with their children. He has a long list of police officers and firefighters in his family and has worked with law enforcement and firefighters in a creative public safety capacity for more than two decades.
