Bridge opening, quarry hearing and holiday concerts: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Bridge opening

The flyover bridge taking Route 146 over Sayles Hill Road will fully open this week, with travel lanes to begin shifting starting on Wednesday night, Dec. 17. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation noted in a release last week that two of the four lanes on the bridge are currently in use.

Coffee hour

Good working at 585 Smithfield Road will host a coffee hour on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 8 to 9 a.m. The public is invited to join with fellow professionals for complimentary coffee while they connect and collaborate.

The North Smithfield Heritage Association thanked Jan Gosselin for purchasing and hanging Christmas wreaths on the Memorial Town Building last week.

Holiday meat raffle

The Island at 1600 Victory Highway will hold a holiday meat raffle starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased in advance at the bar.

This event is open to the public and you do not need to be present to win.

Holiday concerts

The North Smithfield High School Music Department will host holiday concerts starting this week featuring the percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, symphonic band, concert band, concert choir, chamber choir, select choir and the Testoster-tones. Concerts will be held Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 23 starting at 9 a.m.

Tickets cost $10 and are on sale at the school at 412 Greenville Road to the general public starting on Thursday, Dec. 18.

Door decorating contest

Voting starts today in a door decorating contest at North Smithfield Town Hall. Visit Town Hall at 83 Green St. to check out and vote for your favorite door at the table on the first floor by collections and zoning. The last day to vote is Monday, Dec. 29.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, Dec. 15 starting at 6:45 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike The agenda, which includes the long awaited continuation of Material Sand’s zone change request, is here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

The Charter Review Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The Board of Assessment Review will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17 starting at 2 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The Economic Development Commission will hold a meeting on Thursday, Dec. 18 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
