Editor’s note: It’s a quiet and peaceful week as northern Rhode Islanders take time off for the holidays. This week only, we’ve combined our “things to know” into one article for all three of our coverage towns.
Library fun
Pascoag Public Library at 57 Church St. will offer kids winter crafts on Monday, Dec. 29 turning egg cartons into snowmen. Families are invited to the free event from 2 to 4 p.m.
North Smithfield Library at 20 Main St. will hold a children’s crafting program on Tuesday, Dec. 30 starting at 6 p.m., with participants to create a cardinal collage in the style of Charley Harper, as an art piece or card. Learn about seed-eating birds in the Northeast, which birds migrate, and how to tally them as a citizen scientist Registration is required here and closes at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29.
Glocester Manton Free Public Library at 1137 Putnam Pike will host The Great Baldini Magic Show on Tuesday, Dec, 30 starting at 5 p.m., an all ages family-friendly event. Registration for that event is currently full, but families can add their names to the wait list here.
At Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane, local historian Kim Walker will present Artifacts of Harrisville Mill Pond in the community room on Saturday, Jan. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walker will share her discoveries from using a metal detector in the area of Mill Pond while it was drained for recent dam repairs. Holiday closures
North Smithfield Town Hall will close at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed all day on Thursday, Jan. 1 in celebration of the new year. Burrillville Town Hall will have normal hours on Wednesday, but will be closed on Thursday, and Glocester Town Hall will close at noon on Wednesday and reopen Friday at 8 a.m.
Trash and recycling pickup in North Smithfield and Burrillville will not take place on Thursday, and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

New Year’s Eve
Those who hope to ring in 2026 with a night out will have plenty of local choices this week with parties and specials at most area bars.
Of note, Dev’s Tavern at 341 Chapel St. in Harrisville will host a Roaring 20s New Year’s Eve Party with guests invited to dress in their best 1920s costume. The party will include entertainment by DJ Roger Robitaille, noisemakers, hats and a champagne toast at midnight.
Mr. Z’s By the Lake at 2400 Putnam Pike in Chepachet will have Sean Ryan playing acoustic classic rock on Wednesday, Dec. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mapleville Farm in Burrillville is encouraging everyone to join the movement and light a candle on their lawn at midnight on December 31 to show their hope for world peace.

New Year’s Day
Pinewood Pub at 16 Terry Lane in Chepachet will host a New Years day breakfast buffet. Tickets cost $24.99 for adults or $9.99 for children. Seating is limited and reservations are required by calling (401) 568-5660.
Glocester Country Club at 156 Putnam Pike will host Polar Golf on New Year’s Day starting at 10 a.m. Those interested are asked to contact Judi Graham.
Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike will host Neal & the Vipers on Thursday, Jan. 1 starting at 2 p.m.

Other entertainment
International event company Lumos will visit St. Thersa’s Church at 35 Dion Drive in Harrisville on Saturday, Jan. 3 to offer a Vivaldi & Mozart Candlelight Experience. The concert will have two sittings with tickets ranging from $30 to $70. Reservations and more information can be found here.
The Chepachet Grange at 28 Chopmist Hill Road will offer Bingo on Friday, Jan. 2 with food available, an a 10 pack of six cards on sale for $10. Doors are at 5 p.m. with games to start at 6 p.m.
Cady’s Tavern will host Shipwreck James on Friday, Jan. 2.

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 30 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
