BURRILLVILLE – It’s February, folks, and that means Valentine’s Day happens this month. It’s also “Cross Your Heart” month.
February was originally Child Passenger Safety Month but U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed it to the month of September allowing for better weather car seat check ups nationwide. Cross Your Heart month is a Buckleupallofus child and family safety campaign founded shortly afterwards, filling that void.
The campaign slogan; “Cross your heart with your seatbelt…somebody loves you” has been utilized by police departments across Rhode Island, New England and the country reaching out to kids and families since 2017. Police officers distribute coloring cartoons, fridge magnets and wall posters reminding everyone to wear seatbelts in schools, libraries, daycares and community organizations hosting events every February.
Whether you are driving or a passenger riding inside a vehicle, remember to wear your seatbelt for safety’s sake. Kids belong properly restrained in vehicle backseats. The Cross Your Heart month campaign’s educational and awareness focus week is always during the week of Valentine’s Day.
Buckle up, all of us!
