Court of Honor

Scouts Troop 438 North Smithfield will hold a Court of Honor and Galentine’s Day celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 10 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Scouter’s Hall at 11 Main St. The public is invited to join the troop as they recognize their achievements over the past six months and celebrate the 7th anniversary of the inclusion of girls in Scouting America.

Class Cookie Walk

The North Smithfield High School Class of 2028 will hold a cookie walk just in time for Valentine’s Day, with visitors invited to the school at 412 Greenville Road. The event will be held on Friday, Feb. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Congratulations to Northmen Varsity boys basketball player Connor Reilly for reaching a career 1,000 points last week.

Slatersville ‘Nostalgia’

Slatersville: America’s First Mill Village is currently running on Ocean State Media – formerly Rhode Island PBS – with the final episode running this week starting at 8 p.m. The series continues on Friday, Feb. 13 with Episode 8: The Power of Nostalgia running for 76 minutes.

Library Cookie Walk

North Smithfield Library at 20 Main St. will hold its annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, Feb. 14 starting at 10:30 a.m. to help support library programming. The event will last until 12:30 p.m. or while supplies last with cookies sold at $15 per bag.

Stop the Bleed

The North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency will offer hands-only CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed training on Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Scouter’s Hall. The free, three hour, semi-annual life-saving program is open to the first 50 North Smithfield residents to register, and will be taught in accordance with the American Heart Association. Certificates will be awarded upon completion of the program.

Incidents such as cardiac arrest choking and serious bleeding do take place and most by-standers want to help until professional care arrives. The program aims to change by-standers into by-doers and to help others save lives.

Polar Plunge

Members of the North Smithfield Police Department will join Law Enforcement Polar Plunge on Sunday, March 22 in support of Special Olympics Rhode Island. Member of the public are invited to join the plunge – or to stay warm and dry but do their part by donating here.

The Groundwater Protection Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, Feb. 9 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
