Snow update

Kids have one more day for that long winter break on Tuesday, Feb. 24, but will it finally be back to school tomorrow? Parents can keep an eye out for any additional delays here. A parking ban remains in effect in town until further notice.

A few homes in Glocester still remain without power as of Tuesday afternoon.

Live music

Midnight Honey will play at Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike Thursday night, Feb. 26 starting at 7 p.m. and Higher Ground will debut at the bar on Saturday, Feb. 28 with a show starting at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, it’s Dirty Old Men starting at 2 p.m.

At Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike will host its weekly blues jam on Sunday starting at 3 p.m. with Gary Cummings and Chris Vachon. Check for updates on the venue’s Facebook page.

Top athletes

Congratulations to the 25 Track & Field Student-Athletes who competed at States & JV States, including Amber Shaw, who was crowned Pole Vault State Champion. Shaw, a Ponaganset High School senior with plans to attend Bryant University,  cleared the bar in 11 and a half feet.

Also placing were Ponaganset sophomore Cece Bizon, who took 5th place in the 20-pound weight with 50-8 1/2; senior Ellie Jackson in the 1,000, taking 6th place with 3:06.98; sophomore Anna Lafontaine, who took 7th place in the 55-meter hurdles with 9.08 seconds; and senior Paxton Allen, who placed fifth in the boys’ 55-meter hurdles in eight seconds.

Candy

Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike is now accepting donations of candy for the town’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Donations of candy and eggs will be accepted at the library during regular hours through March 13.

The Glocester Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24 starting at 3 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
