GLOCESTER – Glocester Police Chief Joseph DelPrete announced the retirement this week of a leader in law enforcement that has served the department for some 32 years.
Capt. Matthew Fague will have his last day of service on Friday, March 13 following a career that included numerous letters of recognition, commendations, and the department life saving award in 2004.
“He has made so many contributions to the Glocester Police during his tenure, guiding and managing the police department through it’s first Rhode Island Accreditation, school safety, and upgrading the training programs to include an elite firearms training curriculum,” noted DelPrete.

A Smithfield resident who joined the department in 1993, Fague was promoted to the rank of captain on October 17, 2018, a senior management role responsible for day to day operations and administration of the agency. DelPrete said the captain also played a key role in advancing school safety initiatives and upgrading departmental training programs to include an elite firearms training curriculum.
Fague has also handled much of the department’s communications, issuing statements on major crimes and fielding press inquires over the years.
The chief noted that community service and outreach to residents of the town of Glocester have also been a hallmark of Fague’s tenure.
“He was directly and indirectly involved in every community program, including Special Olympics, parades, food drives, and blood drives in the jurisdiction,” said DelPrete. “These programs were very successful because of his leadership and direction.”
“His outstanding dedication to the town of Glocester will be missed,” he said.
DelPrete himself is also set to retire, with a resignation expected in the coming weeks.
