Blood drive

Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike will have the bloodmobile on site on Thursday, March 19 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The Rhode Island Blood Center has declared a blood emergency and is issuing an urgent call for blood donors. The recent historic winter storm brought record snowfall and forced widespread blood drive cancellations, donor center closures, and travel disruptions across the state. More than 1,500 blood donations were lost due to storm-related disruptions, leaving the region with less than a two-day blood supply, well below the 7-day level needed to support local hospitals.

Sign up to donate Thursday here or call (401) 453.8383. Walk-ins will also be welcomed.

Egg hunt

Glocester Libraries will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 21 starting at 11 a.m. on the lawn of Glocester Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. Children will be split into two groups by age and are advised to bring their own basket or bag. The event is open to kids age ten and under and participants should arrive at least ten minutes early as the hunt begins immediately after the church bell rings.

The rain date for the events is Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m.

K9 Garry

K9 Garry

The Glocester Police Department got a new member this week announcing that K9 Garry is coming out of retirement. K9 Garry worked for years with the Warwick Police Department, starring on the show Live PD. He’ll join the GPD with his handler Patrolman Aaron Steere.

The department is now raising funds to get the dog a properly outfitted cruiser and will be selling jam, salsa, sauce and nuts at $10 a jar. The GPD also has dog bones and “woofles” treats at a cost of $5 each, available for purchase at the station at 162 Chopmist Hill Road Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can also email [email protected] to schedule a pickup.

Garry will be the second law enforcement dog in Glocester, joining K9 Tate, who remains active.
