Burrillville Animal Control caught an escaped emu this week and returned it to its home in Glocester.

Trout

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management recently stocked locations statewide with some 600,000 fish, including brook, brown, rainbow and golden trout, and Sebago salmon, including several freshwater spots in Burrillville. Freshly stocked waterways in town include: Branch River; Chepachet River; Clear River; Lapham Pond; Peck Pond; Round Top Brook and Round Top Pond; Tarklin Pond and Wallum Lake.

Through Sunday, May 3, anyone who catches a golden rainbow trout can win a prize of a golden trout pin. Those who catch one should email a picture of the trout to [email protected].

Pipeline Open House

Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC is inviting the public to an open house on the proposed “Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement” – a plan to upgrade the company’s pipelines in Massachusetts and Rhode Island – including a three mile loop in Burrillville. An open house will be held at Crystal Lake Golf Club at 100 Broncos Highway on Tuesday, April 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Algonquin personnel and representatives from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the agency responsible for permitting the project, will be available to answer questions and get feedback from the public. Interested community members are encouraged to attend.

For more information contact Algonquin at (855) 763-0055 or read more about the project here.

Deadline

Families enrolling a child in Burrillville public schools are encouraged to complete and submit all required documentation found on the district’s student registration webpage by the priority registration deadline of Friday, May 1. This includes career and technical education students, kindergarten students, and all students who are moving to Burrillville from other states/other RI school districts.

“We look forward to welcoming all new students and their families to our Bronco community,” the district noted.

Heritage Day

A major event to mark the town’s celebration of the 250th birthday of America will take place on Saturday, May 2, with locals to flock to the grounds of Burrillville Middle School for reenactments, vendors, food, live entertainment, fireworks and more. Heritage Day will take place from 9 a.m. through the evening at the school at 2220 Broncos Highway.

The town’s annual Family Fair has been rolled into the celebration, with those traditional vendors to take part until 1 p.m., and others remaining until 4 p.m., when food trucks arrive and additional programming begins. It will end with a massive fireworks display starting at dusk.
