Northern RI – Fire up the grill and get ready to enjoy some beautiful weather this weekend, northern Rhode Island – but don’t forget to honor those who made it possible.

It’s Memorial Day Weekend, marking the unofficial start of summer, and while some businesses will close to allow staff some time off, others will offer entertainment, and events on Monday will provide a chance to remember those who gave their lives in the line of service.

To note, first, some of what’s not happening: The Taco Shop in Harrisville will close on Saturday for the long weekend, and Beef Barn Restaurants will be closed on Memorial Day. Town offices everywhere will be closed on Monday. The Family Hikes put on by North Smithfield Parks & Recreation, meanwhile, have ended for the season.

But Beef Barn’s Pound Hill Creamery will be open on the Monday holiday, and at our small, local music and entertainment venues, the show goes on.

Details for Monday’s observances close out our weekly roundup of how to keep it local this week.
